Canadian TV in Colour

October 1, 1966

First transmission of colour television signals by Canadian stations begins. At the time there are only 50,000 colour televisions in Canada, compared to almost 5 million black and white sets. Most of the colour sets are concentrated in the Toronto / Hamilton / Golden Horseshoe area of Southern Ontario where they can receive a large number of colour programs from the US.
