FCC Freeze Lifted

July 1, 1952

In the US, the FCC “freeze” on TV station construction is lifted. The new plan provides for 617 VHF and 1436 UHF allocations, including 242 non-commercial educational stations. Four networks emerge: ABC, CBS, NBC, and DuMont, and television becomes available to a wider audience.
