First Official Broadcast Received in Canada

June 3, 1946

Canadian General Electric engineers in Windsor, Ontario, receive, on a GE 801 console set, the first “official” electronic television broadcast in Canada. Ironically, it is transmitted from the new US station WWDT in Detroit. In the years to come, Canadians living close to the border are able to receive US television signals long before Canadian transmissions are available.
