Political Advertising

1952

The first political ads appear on US networks, when Democrats buy a half-hour slot for Adlai Stevenson. Stevenson is bombarded with hate mail for interfering with a broadcast of I Love Lucy. Eisenhower, Stevenson’s political opponent, buys only 20-second commercial slots, and wins the election.
